Colorectal Cancer Awareness Campaign/ Colorectal Cancer Awareness Action
Date:
February 6–8, 2023
Location: Habib Bourguiba University Hospital

Description:
In collaboration with members of the European project MIC Africa (GRANT Agreement No. 952583, a Horizon 2020 Twinning initiative), members of ADRIC actively participated in a public awareness campaign on colorectal cancer.

This initiative is particularly important in the Tunisian context, where colorectal cancer has become one of the most common cancers: it is the second most frequently diagnosed cancer in both men and women, with approximately 3,500 new cases reported in 2022.

According to data from the Northern Tunisia Cancer Registry, the world-standardized incidence rate reaches approximately 29.4 per 100,000 in men and 23.0 per 100,000 in women—figures comparable to those in high-income countries. Without effective prevention strategies, the incidence could double by 2040. However, if detected at an early stage, colorectal cancer is curable in more than 90% of cases. This underscores the crucial importance of awareness and screening campaigns aimed at promoting early diagnosis, encouraging healthy lifestyles, and increasing public understanding of risk factors. ADRIC’s involvement in this initiative reflects its strong commitment to cancer prevention and public health promotion
